About Black Creek
Black Creek covers the area around Jane and Finch in Toronto's northwest, the heart of the community widely known by that intersection. Built rapidly in the late 1960s and 70s as a planned mix of high-rise apartment towers, townhouse clusters and public housing, it became one of the city's densest and most diverse neighbourhoods, home to generations of newcomers from the Caribbean, Africa, Latin America and beyond.
Bus routes along Jane and Finch carry heavy ridership to the subway, and the long-awaited Finch West LRT now links the area east toward Finch West station on Line 1, with York University close by to the north. The community is celebrated for its strong grassroots organizations, youth programs and cultural life, even as it has long contended with under-investment and an unfair outside reputation.
Housing is dominated by the original 1960s and 70s rental towers and co-ops, with very limited condo ownership stock and only early signs of new development. Pricing sits at the deep-value end of the Toronto market, among the most affordable anywhere in the city.
